Recently sent was this vintage photo with a torn piece missing needing to be repaired. After the missing piece was restored (fixed digitally), the repaired image was reprinted as a fresh photo. This shows how it is possible to have a torn photo with a missing piece fixed without the need for the part of the photo that is missing.
